“My story could be your story. As Filipinos, it must be our story.”

Diosdado “Dado” Banatao was born on 23rd of May 1946, in Malabbac, Iguig, Cagayan Valley Philippines. His parents were farmers. Despite growing up in poverty he studied hard to achieve his dream and help his family. 

He graduated as Cum Laude in Mapua Institute of Technology as an Electrical Engineer. He really felt in love in Engineering but there’s not enough opportunity in the Philippines. So he decided to go to America and continued his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Standford University.

In the 1980s, Dado’s innovations helped usher in the era of the personal computer. He pioneered the PC chipset and graphics acceleration architecture that led to breakthroughs in multimedia computing. Dado founded three companies – Chips & Technologies, Mostron and  S3 Graphics.

A Silicon Valley Philanthropist

After his spectacular technological and financial successes as innovator and entrepreneur and later as venture capitalist in Silicon Valley, Banatao is focusing his activities and philanthropy towards helping the Philippines develop into a high-tech research and development nation. It is an ambitious and enormous task that he is herding through PhilDev, the foundation that he heads.

“I’m happy with what I have. I’m not looking for any more. People give back when they think they have enough.”
